Twentieth century’s most important events, inventions and peak lifetime experiences have
become synonymous with the Nobel Award Ceremony and Prizes since 10 Dec 1901, the
anniversary of Alfred Nobel’s death and his will to honour through the years ‘those who ..
have conferred the greatest benefit to mankind’.
In a mystic cultural relay across time and space, modern day Nobel Laureates link our thread
of collective memory and inspiration with stories from Greek Mythology’s Sun God Apollo,
leader of the Muses and patron God of the Arts, Prophecy, Poetry and Healing. Honouring
cultural victory, a circular wreath is made of bay laurel branches and leaves (Daphni in
Greek; Laurus nobilis in Latin).
The Nobel Prize Diploma and Medal Insignia awarded to each individual Nobel Prize Recipient are uniquely hand-made and masterfully crafted pieces of artwork sealed by the individual talent, craft and inspiration of a special cluster of artists from the fields of painting, sculpture, calligraphy, book binding, photography and illustration.
